چکیده

Dear Editor, We read the article by Akyüz et al. [1] with great interest. In their study, the authors concluded that the amount of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) was higher in subjects with xanthelasma than in subjects without. We appreciate their investigation concerning the relationship between xanthelasma and EAT thickness. However, a number of well-known factors may independently affect EAT thickness. These include the metabolic syndrome independent of body mass index, and the correlation between visceral adipose tissue and waist circumference [2, 3] . EAT thickness is significantly higher in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease compared to controls [4] , and patients with subclinical hypothyroidism seem to have a significantly increased EAT thickness [5] . Treatment with statins could induce EAT regression independentPublished online: January 20, 2016

Echocardiographic Epicardial Adipose Tissue as a New Indicator of Cardiovascular Risk

Abstract Background and Purpose: Epicardial fat is the true visceral fat located around the heart, particularly around sub-epicardial coronary arteries that may locally interact and modulate the coronary arteries and myocardium through paracrine or vasocrine secretion of anti-inflammatory and proatherogenic cytokines. Most previous studies have used echocardiography and reported controversia...

Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived from Rat Epicardial Versus Epididymal Adipose Tissue

Objective(s) Some investigation has indicated that adipose-derived stem cells possess different surface epitopes and differentiation potential according to the localization of fat pad from which the cells were derived. In the present study proliferation capacity and aging of such cells were explored. Materials and Methods Adherent cells were isolated from the collagenase digests of adipose tiss...

Epicardial Adiposity in Children with Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome

OBJECTIVE Obesity increases cardiac diseases by increasing tendency to atherosclerosis. Our aim was to define epicardial adipose tissue thickness, and its related factors in obese children. METHODS Total of 94 patients were divided into obesity with metabolic syndrome (MS) (n=30), obesity without MS (n=33), and control (n=31) groups. Auxological values with fasting glucose, fasting insulin, a...

Echocardiographic Epicardial Fat Thickness on Short Term Prognosis in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome

Introduction Metabolic syndrome is related to multiple cardiovascular risk factors. Visceral obesity seems to play a key role in the development of all features of metabolic syndrome. Hence, the detection of visceral adipose tissue, fat deposited around the internal organs, might be important for the risk stratification of metabolic syndrome. Several methods are applied as surrogates for estima...
